What are the emerging trends in education technology?
Mobile technologies and cloud computing are the technology trends most likely to have a significant impact on education in the next year, according to a recent report. The findings from the New Media Consortium also predict that in the midterm, learning analytics and open content are trends to watch. In the next four to five years, educators should expect 3D printing and virtual and remote laboratories to make a difference in education, the report's authors suggest. Why "screenagers" present challenges for schools
Students are increasingly connected to mobile devices, writes Matt Levinson, who dubs this generation of teenagers as "screenagers" in this blog post. Levinson, head of the Upper Division at Marin Country Day School in California, writes that teens are drawn to smartphones -- not iPads or computers -- for social media. That revelation has implications for schools rolling out tablet programs, he writes, as educators consider how students will view technology and be expected to use it.
