The FDA has cleared Beckman Coulter, a unit of Danaher, to market its Access AccuTnI+3 troponin I test. AstraZeneca will establish a new global headquarters and research center at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in England. The move is in line with the drugmaker's plan to build strategic global R&D centers in the U.S., U.K. and Sweden to boost pipeline productivity and establish the firm as an innovation leader. Sanofi and the Curie Institute have agreed to cooperate in the search for new therapeutic targets for ovarian cancer using next-generation sequencing, reverse-phase protein analysis and patient-derived xenografts. The three-year collaboration seeks "to gain a better understanding of the molecular alterations that characterize many types of ovarian cancer, thereby enabling effective new drugs to be designed," the partners said. Three plant biotechnology pioneers have won this year's World Food Prize. The $250,000 prize will be shared by Monsanto Chief Technology Officer Robert Fraley, Syngenta founder Mary-Dell Chilton and Marc Van Montagu, founder and chairman of the Institute of Plant Biotechnology Outreach at Ghent University in Belgium.
