    A study found that Horizon Pharma's arthritis drug Duexis, which combines famotidine and ibuprofen, reduces ulcer risk caused by ibuprofen alone. Researchers said half as many patients using Duexis had an ulcer after 24 weeks compared with those taking ibuprofen alone. Duexis is marketed as a more convenient alternative to a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with a separate gastroprotective agent.   • UCB opens biotech plant in Belgium
    UCB has opened an $85 million biotechnology facility at its site in Braine-L'Alleud, Belgium. The plant, which will become fully operational next year, will manufacture cell culture-based therapeutic proteins and support the firm's biologics research and trials.     France-based Deinove, which is developing an ethanol production method that uses Deinococcus bacteria and wheat-based feedstock, will receive $1.5 million from the French government after achieving its proof-of-concept target. Deinove says its technology converts biomass into fermentable sugars and turns those sugars into ethanol in a single step, eliminating the need for additives.
