Stimulating cROSstalk between commensal bacteria and intestinal stem cells

Commensal gut bacteria benefit their host is many ways. New findings report that commensal bacteria also promote intestinal epithelial renewal in both flies and mice.

Interferon lambda 4 signals via the IFNλ receptor to regulate antiviral activity against HCV and coronaviruses

Expression of interferon lambda 4, IFNL4, has been linked to impaired clearance of HCV. New findings report here that IFNL4 encodes an active type III interferon that is antiviral against both HCV and coronaviruses.

Listeria phospholipases subvert host autophagic defenses by stalling pre-autophagosomal structures

Listeria initially escapes host autophagic defense through inhibition of mTOR signalling by Listeriolysin. However, long-term autophagy inhibition requires a different mechanism involving bacterial phospholipases PlcA and B-dependent stalling of pre-autophagosomal structures.
