Total synthesis of natural products: Kuniaki Tatsuta Special Issue

Special issue editors: Herbert A Kirst, Yoshikazu Takahashi

We are very honored and pleased to present this March 2013 issue of The Journal of Antibiotics to Dr Kuniaki Tatsuta and his great achievement. Including total syntheses of four major natural products — Tetracyclines, Aminoglycosides, Macrolides, and β-Lactam antibiotics, Dr Tatsuta had achieved 102 total syntheses of which he was first in the world to synthesize 95. In this issue we were able to publish a list and scheme of all 102 total syntheses with Dr Tatsuta's own review article, along with the articles specially solicited from his colleagues. We thank section editor Dr Herbert Kirst and managing editor Dr Yoshikazu Takahashi for their hard work as special issue editors in planning and coordination of this issue. The Journal of Antibiotics
