A student's lawsuit against a Texas school district's use of identification badges and tracking devices has been thrown out by a federal court. In a ruling issued Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia found that the district can transfer Andrea Hernandez, 15, to her neighborhood school for refusing to wear her student identification badge used at the magnet school where she had been enrolled. Hernandez and her family contended the requirement to wear the badges violated her constitutional and religious rights. Facebook remains a popular social-networking site for teachers in their personal lives, but for professional uses, teachers increasingly seek social networks tailored for educators, a recent survey shows. More teachers say they are joining sites such as edWeb and Edmodo, which aim to provide secure spaces for teachers to facilitate student learning and grow professionally. "A lot of teachers are on Facebook as general-population consumers," said Jessie Arora, founder of Teacher Square. "[But] they aren't on Facebook with their teacher hats on."
