Kasel Associated Industries of Denver is recalling its Boots & Barkley American Beef Bully Sticks, sold at Target stores, after detecting salmonella contamination in certain lots. • Week-old giant panda cub dies at Washington's National Zoo
The National Zoo's panda cub was pronounced dead this weekend, less than a week after its much-celebrated birth. When zoo staff noted distress calls from mother Mei Xiang, they removed the cub from her care, taking it to a medical treatment area where zoo veterinarian Nancy Boedeker attempted CPR for 10 minutes. Preliminary necropsy findings include liver abnormalities and unusual abdominal fluid, but chief veterinarian Suzan Murray warned against drawing conclusions too quickly. "Judging too much on the initial necropsy can be a little bit dangerous at times," Dr. Murray said. "Something that might appear abnormal to you visually, when you look at it under a microscope, it may indeed be normal." The Washington Post (9/24) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
