Deepwater Horizon : TAKING THE MEASURE OF THE SPILL
In an Opinion piece for Nature, geochemist David Valentine argues that
plumes of dissolved methane could be used to determine how much oil
has leaked into the Gulf of Mexico - if the studies are done soon.

http://links.ealert.nature.com/ctt?kn=69&m=34916594&r=MTc2NzE1NzUzNAS2&b=2&j=NzQ0Njg1OTQS1&mt=1&rt=0

And despite suggestions that sizing up the spill might even detract
from the response effort, there is a growing clamour from scientists
to come up with better estimates of the flow of oil into the Gulf of
Mexico.

Meanwhile, Colin Macilwain argues in the latest issue of Nature that
the spill is unlikely to provide the flagging environmental movement
with the renewed impetus it so badly needs.

Nature Web Focus Malaria 2010

Despite increasing research efforts, malaria remains a significant
cause of human mortality. The discovery of new drug and vaccine leads,
the implementation of effective control measures in light of a
changing world and an understanding of the mechanisms underlying
human-parasite and vector-parasite interactions are all required to
get a step closer to the ultimate goal of eradicating this disease.
In all of these areas, the past year has produced some very
interesting new insights that Nature are proud to present in this focus.
