A study in this issue shows that the HUWE1 E3 ligase is recruited to stalled replication forks by PCNA, promotes fork restart, and mitigates replication stress.

A study in this issue shows that densely arranged REC8 cohesin complexes prevent local separation of sister chromatid axes and illegitimate synaptonemal complex assembly.

Anticipating the emergence of infectious diseases would be more effective in reducing their toll, rather than reacting to an outbreak. Machine learning and simulation tools that use environmental, epidemiological and molecular data could help manage and analyse the flow or risks, and inform appropriate actions by public health authorities.

Existing national and EU regulations and laws to protect animal welfare are being challenged by the increasing importance and use of genetically modified animals in biomedical research. Scientists, veterinarians, lawyers and regulatory authorities need to adapt these laws to improve animal welfare in research while not hindering medical progress.

The biohacking movement raises security concerns for some law enforcement officials. However, while attempts at outreach from the FBI to the US community have been successful, others in the biohacking movement remain cautious of government interference.

Migraines afflict millions of people, generating considerable economic costs in terms of treatment and lost work time. Even though research has not yet uncovered the molecular basis for migraines, it has nonetheless yielded a new generation of drug treatment and non‐drug intervention, which could help ward‐off migraine attacks rather than help sufferers manage the headaches.

This study provides evidence for a novel localization of the PS lipid transfer proteins ORP5 and ORP8 at ER–mitochondria contact sites, in addition to ER–PM contacts. Depletion of ORP5 and ORP8 leads to defects in mitochondria morphology and respiratory function.

This study shows that SIRT5 desuccinylates and deglutarylates IDH2 and G6PD, respectively, and activates both enzymes to maintain cellular NADPH homeostasis and to enhance cellular antioxidant defense.

This study shows how the renal tumour suppressor folliculin couples the lysosomal nutrient signaling network to the cellular machinery that controls the intracellular distribution of the organelle itself.

This study shows that the BAG6‐binding factor UBQLN4 is essential for the elimination of mislocalized cytosolic transmembrane domain proteins that have failed to reach their correct destination at the ER membrane.

This study provides evidence that septins, conserved components of the cytoskeleton, are involved in Drp1‐mediated mitochondrial fission.

The HUWE1 ubiquitin ligase is recruited to stalled replication forks by the replication factor PCNA. HUWE1 ubiquitinates H2AX to promote restart of stalled replication forks and mitigate replication stress.

This study shows that the paracaspase MALT1 is indispensable for CARD14‐induced NF‐κB and MAP kinase signaling. Pharmacological inhibition of MALT1 prevents pro‐inflammatory gene expression in primary keratinocytes induced by psoriasis‐associated mutation of CARD14.
