New work illustrates how transcription factor NeuroD1 reshapes the chromatin landscape to elicit a specific neurogenic program and drive cells down a distinct differentiation pathway.

Cellular responses to all kinds of DNA damage involve a complex interplay of phosphorylation, ubiquitination, poly(ADP‐ribosyl)ation and other modifications, the intricacies of which are conceptualized in this review.

Using a genome‐wide approach this study delineates the binding requirements and target sites for NeuroD1, illustrating how this factor drives the formation of a transcriptional and epigenetic program to ensure neuronal differentiation.

LRR signaling co‐receptor BAK1 is a central mediator of plant immunity, but when absent—as seen upon certain fungal invasions—its function is compensated by signaling through danger peptide receptors PEPRs.

The phosphatidylinositol phosphatase activity harboring protein tyrosine phosphatase PTPRN2 and the phospholipase PLCβ1 are overexpressed in breast cancer. Both enzymes reduce plasma membrane PI(4,5)P2 levels, thereby enhancing cofilin‐mediated actin remodeling and breast cancer metastasis.

Cell shapes in naturally packed tissues have different polygon distributions. Voronoi tessellations‐based analysis suggests that polygon frequencies are restricted by the distribution of cell areas, and that this restriction emanates from the balance of forces within the tissue.

RFP‐ and GFP‐based reporters require oxygen to mature. The Japanese eel green fluorescent protein UnaG matures independently of oxygen, which makes it an ideal reporter to reveal hypoxia.
