China confirms 4 more human cases of H7N9 avian influenza
China has announced four new human cases of the H7N9 avian influenza strain that killed two people and infected another, bringing the total human infection count to seven. The new patients are hospitalized in critical condition. Public health officials believe the virus is not readily transmitted between humans because 255 people who had contact with those who were infected have not shown signs of illness. Update: Recipients of organs from donor with rabies out of danger
According to the CDC, three transplant patients who received organs from a donor later confirmed to have died from rabies are no longer at risk for the disease because they finished post-exposure prophylaxis treatment. Another patient died 18 months after receiving an organ from the infected donor. Twenty-eight of the 36 people who had contact with the patients and were encouraged to get treatment have done so. Rehabilitation is a growing field of pet health care that aims to help animals cope with physical problems such as knee or back trouble by improving strength and flexibility, possibly decreasing the need for medication. Underwater treadmills, obstacle courses and massage are just a few of the tools pet physical therapists employ.
