According to a Colorado State University study, canine influenza is especially problematic in Colorado and New York. Veterinarian Wendy Hauser says infections can be serious, in part because the virus is relatively new and few dogs have immunity. A new online application helps owners gauge their dog's intelligence with a series of scientific tests. Dognition, a free tool created by Duke University evolutionary anthropologist Brian Hare, uses questions and simple games to measure a dog's aspects of intelligence: communication, cunning, empathy, memory and reasoning.
